League of Legends - ARAM strategies, tips and tricks

ARAM stands for "All Random All Mid" and has been available in League of Legends since quiet a long time, but only through custom games. Getting games going was really painful, because lots of players quit after they received a champion they wouldn't want to play. Then players had to rejoin a game lobby and remake the teams.

ARAM stands for "All Random All Mid" and has been available in League of Legends since quiet a long time, but only through custom games. Getting games going was really painful, because lots of players quit after they received a champion they wouldn't want to play. Then players had to rejoin a game lobby and remake the teams.

This spring things got a lot better because the game received a patch which contained matchmaking for ARAM games on a new map, Howling Abyss. This map is literally a straight line with some(4) towers, an inhibitor and the nexus. Important rules of this game style, that players don't heal at the starting point. Also they can't buy items after they leave that area.

In other words players can buy items right after game start or after they die in figths.

Now the title may sound stupid, how on earth do strategies exists when in this game mode random determines mostly the outcome of the games. Well, that is may be true, but there are some things which could help a team win even if they look weaker on paper.

In this game mode, i would say there are there types of teams:

Poke heavy: Probably the strongest team composition if played properly, which is not that hard, because you don't really need coordination to spam ranged skillshots.
Balanced: 2 or 3 ranged and balanced champions. This can be powerful, sometimes better than poke heavy teams, but players need better coordination, especially between melee and ranged users.
Bruiser team: Only melee champions with very limited ranged skills. This one usually has a very hard time facing ranged(poke) teams. These teams must initiate figths which is very hard to do in random groups.

Lets go on with the strategies and tips that may help winning more games in ARAM.

Always check the opponent team composition. Sometimes poke heavy teams rely on magic damage only so building magic resistance can give an edge late game. This applies to attack damage teams as well.
Build some defense(health/armor/magic resistance). There are some very rare exceptions to this, but most of the time you should get at least one defensive item on your build even if you are playing an ad or ap carry. I rarely see this, 80% of the players build glass cannons.
If your team manages to ace the other team with very low health remaining, then it's better to suicide into turret(obvioulsy damaging it). The other team would probably ace your team anyway with the better items(they can shop after they died) and may even take your turret afterwards.
Don't hide in the bushes with melee champions too much if you see many skillshot champions in the enemy team. They will shoot there 99% and you will just loose health for no reason.
Pick up spawning health. Lots of players don't do this when they are over 60-70& health. I would say do it if you don't have maximum health. Sometimes even with max health you should pick up to deny the enemies picking it up.

Lastly, "Be patient". This is generally a good thing in any sort of PvP game. Wait for the others to make errors and capitalize on them(in ARAM for example melee champions dive).
