First of all, to tame wolves, you will need bones. Depending on how many wolves you plan to tame, you might need more or less bones. If you are planning to tame only one, then you might need about 5, since each wolf will need a different number of bones to tame. I suggest getting more bones, because wolves usually spawn in a pack, meaning if you find one wolf, there are bound to be some more in the surrounding area. Bones can be obtained either by killing skeletons during the night, or using the Minecraft mod “Too many Items” to spawn into your inventory.

I suggest using the mod because during the night, there are not only skeletons, there are also zombies, spiders, creepers, e.t.c.

Now after you have some bones in your inventory, to find wolves, if there is a nice snowy area, check around there first. Wolves seem to be attracted to the snow. If you have no luck they are sometimes in areas with many trees. Also, if there is a snowy area with trees and sheep, you are bound to have found a pack of wolves. If there are blocks of wool floating around, and you haven’t been shearing sheep, you know that a pack is nearby.

Okay, so after you’ve found a wolf, or a pack of wolves, equip a bone and keep right-clicking the wolf until a heart shows up. The wolf will now follow you around, and if you look at the wolf at just the right angle, you can see a red collar. It usually takes more than 1 bone to tame a wolf, so make sure you bring more. You can tame as many wolves as you want.

Your pet wolves will attack whatever you attack, unless it is attacked with a bow and arrow. They will only attack what you attack if you attack it using melee, and wolves will never attack creepers. If you have a wolf, you can right click it to make it sit and stay. Their tails indicate their health, for example if their tail is very low, then it has low health and you should feed it raw pork chops. If it’s health is high, the tail will be high too. You feed it by equipping a raw pork chop and right-clicking the wolf.
